Michael Guerrero and Liz Gomez are now certified Certified Medicaid Planners. This blog is about the Certified Medicaid Planner (CMP) certification and why Eldercare Resource Planning’s management has decided to get certified.
At some point, it happens to everyone who is lucky enough to see our loved ones grow old: They begin needing help. At first we can manage it ourselves. It’s just a grocery run, or a stop at the pharmacy… you needed to pick up a few things anyway. But then one day it starts to become too much to handle. Perhaps it’s a knee or hip replacement where they need lots of bed rest and extra help. Or an illness their body just can’t shake, while you still need to work. You can’t be in both places. That “stretched thin” feeling is not a good one, and it’s really no fun when you realize there isn’t much support for you in finding help. You’re facing a sea of paperwork, scarce information on Medicaid programs, and varied answers to your questions depending on which number you call.
This issue of how to care for our aging folks has begun to crop up for many of us. A staggering 10,000 Baby Boomers turn 65 every day, and it’s estimated that by 2029, 18% of the US population will be retirement age. (1) So, Medicaid Planning has become an emerging field in the past few years, and as these figures play out in the real world, strict industry standards have become necessary.

We’re not talking just the norms around professional development and continued learning. We’re talking testing and certification, which ensures that when you choose a Certified Medicaid Planner, you are choosing someone with demonstrated knowledge and integrity. Now those standards are here! And CMP Board’s certification program is officially accredited, which is fantastic news.
We Passed, With Flying Colors.
The whole reason we exist is because our founders themselves needed the kind of expert assistance that we now provide.
The thing is, there have long been quality people in resource planning. Not to toot our own horn, but Eldercare Resource Planning is one such place. Our Medicaid specialists are extremely knowledgeable; the whole reason we exist is because our founders themselves needed the kind of expert assistance that we now provide.
So it’s always been our mission to be a strong support for families; to help guide you confidently into new phases of life.
With these new accreditation standards in place, our esteemed co-founder Michael Guerrero and our Medicaid team manager Liz Gomez sat for the exam earlier this year. Soon after, the results were in, and our CMP certification was official!
As we inch toward the future, it’s incredibly important to know where to find care for our elderly loved ones, without breaking the bank. Now that Certified Medicaid Planning is an accredited field, thanks to a nod from the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), we can begin separating the wheat from the chaff, where providers are concerned.
Certified Medicaid Planning isn’t a subfield; it can’t be nested under another group such as lawyers and social workers. We are advocates for you on a completely different level. Here at Eldercare Resource Planning, we have long felt that Medicaid Planners should be held to proper individual standards, so it’s great that this has finally become a reality.

Eldercare + You: We’re In This Together
Your loved one’s old age planning is no joke. If you do it wrong, it could mean financial ruin. But this really isn’t meant to scare you so much as it is to make you aware. It’s to illustrate the conclusion that this whole industry has been coming to in the last few years: We need verifiable experts in program availability and planning. Our parents are getting older and we need people who are qualified to help us plan correctly for this!
With this certification there is now a measurable way for you to gauge any Planner’s expertise, so you don’t just have to go by feel. Your head and your heart can work together to set your future up correctly, which is great.
You matter, your loved one matters, and established standards matter. So this is a big win for all of us.
